Regain your mobility with Graston Technique!

Soft tissue injuries can be debilitating and frustrating. Graston Technique (GT) therapy is successful in effectively treating all soft tissue conditions, whether they are chronic, acute or post- surgical. What is GT or Gua Sha therapy? Similarly to Massage Cuppingthis kind of treatment helps remove fascial restrictions with a scraping motion. Using the scraping technique with these unique instruments enables the treatment of scar tissue, fascial restrictions and detoxification during rehabilitation that allows for faster recovery, with greater success when the goal is restoring range of motion, eliminating pain, and restoring normal function.

Is there a difference between Graston Technique & Gua Sha?

Graston Technique and Gua Sha therapy are the same treatment, meaning they are both using the scraping technique. The only difference are the instruments used for treatment; Graston Technique has a proprietary set of instruments and training with those instruments versus Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese modality that dates back to the Ming Dynasty. We utilize and apply both instruments in our practice. Below are some examples of the tools.

What To Expect

During a scraping treatment, a lubricant is applied to the skin of the treatment area to allow slip to promote an even glide of the instruments. Depending on the severity of the condition, your skin may start to discolor and turn a reddish color as the blood vessels respond to the treatment process. At no time during the session should you feel pain, this treatment is not meant to hurt, you should only feel pressure or stiffness in the area. Some areas might be more tender than others, which is normal, but just be sure to let your practitioner know, as we only work within your pain threshold. With scraping the treatment area is worked on until the stagnant blood surfaces to the skin, which at this point is when the reddish marks are shown. After the scraping treatment is finished, a light lymphatic massage will be performed to help the body dispose of the stagnant blood and waste from the muscles for a faster recovery process. Any mild bruising or other marks usually go away within 10-14 days post the session, maybe even less in some cases. Proper hydration promotes a faster healing process and reduces the marks quicker. We don't promise to "fix" any issues, but we always aide in the healing process and aim to help you feel at least 10% - 20% better after your session.
